If you love greek mythology, you'd know that owls are a symbol of learning. Even at school, in libraries, and in bookstores, you can sometimes see pictures of owls to represent reading or wisdom. And we didn't make a mistake representing them like that, because although they can't really read, they are super smart!
Because of this, Owls have become interesting creatures to children. They can do things humans can't do, they look beautiful, they can fly and they're smart too! This is why this have-it-all creature is the perfect animal for your child who loves art.
Grab a paper, a pen, and some crayons, and get ready for this tutorial!
Step 1: Draw the Head and the Body
Draw an upward position of a football shape for the body. On the top part of it, place a circle in a horizontal orientation. Make sure you make the head of the owl big because they look just like that in real life!
Step 2: Erase Overlapping Lines
We don't like those overlapping lines for our art so we need to erase them for it to look clean.
Step 3: Draw the Eyes and Feet
Now, let's make our owl's eyes. We do this by drawing two small circles inside the owl's head. Make sure you make the circles big because owls have large and keen eyes. Next, draw a ribbon-like shape at the bottom of the body peeking out from the left and the right side. This will become the feet of our owl.
Step 4: Start the Eyebrows, Nose, and Feet
For the eyebrows, put in two opposite slanting lines on both sides just above the owl's eyes. Imagine something like an antenna as you do this. Make sure you draw them similar yet mirrored to each other. Next, draw a short line for the nose in between the eyes. Then, lastly for this step, add three cloud-like half-circles at the edge of the ribbon shape to make the toes.
Step 5: Add More Details
Our previous step looks more like an outline. So, let's add details on the lines that we have created for the eyebrows, nose, and feet. These lines will serve as our guide for the rest of the body.
For the eyes, draw a circle inside the bigger circle we've previously drawn. Shade it and then erase the upper-right edge to create a 3D effect. For the nose, draw a line from the top of the line, curve it outwards and connect it back to the line. Do this for the other side. The final look of the nose looks like a tear shape.
For the eyebrows, draw a curve line on top of the first line from the left point towards the right. Again from the left point draw another curve line but this time below the first line all the way to the right. You can do the same on the right eyebrow.
Step 6: Add the Wing and the Details on The Feet
Owls have strong claws. To do this, draw a line starting from the groove of the foot towards the body. Do this again on the other groove and then after you've finished the left foot do the same on the right foot. Now let's draw our owl's folded wings. To do that, we draw a curved line starting from the cheek of the owl down towards the bottom one-third of its body. Then we do the same on the other side.
Also, to make our drawing clean and nice, make sure you erase the lines that we've used as a guide earlier.
Step 7: Finish up!
Finally, finish it up with colors. Owls actually come in different sizes and colors so, color your masterpiece however you like. After that, you're finally done! Congratulations and keep it up!
